Welcome To TVNewsCheck v3.0

The news website targeted to the business news needs of the TV broadcasting industry debuts a new look, powered by a new operating system, today. Changes include the introduction of premium content, an easier-to-use MediaJobCenter and the promise of more services to come. What hasn’t changed: a commitment to providing the best breaking news rundown in the TV trade press — continuously updated throughout the day — and the best in-depth trend stories and analysis available to the industry.

Welcome to an updated TVNewsCheck.

When we launched the news website in 2006, it operated on a platform designed to let editors post a lot of news quickly. We rewrote all the code on that platform about eight years ago and introduced an updated design and both have served us well.

But all things must change and on the web, they must be updated regularly.

Our new, streamlined design aims to make stories easier to find and to better showcase enterprise reporting. Our new platform, on WordPress, offers better search, easier image and video management and many other capabilities the old site didn’t have.

We hope you find both the new design and the new platform a big improvement and we thank you for your patience in recent months as we’ve grappled with bugs on the old site while readying the new one.

An important addition debuting with this new site is Premium Content. You will begin to see more exclusive interviews, in-depth trend stories, analysis and newsmaker profiles — all designed to keep you up to date with an industry changing at breathtaking speed.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

While premium stories will require a subscription and access to stories published more than a week ago will require free registration, readers will continue to be able to access breaking news — and the industry’s most thorough, continuously updated news rundown — without having to log in or pay a fee.

Just as your business has changed, so has ours. While once we relied on advertising revenue alone, TVNewsCheck’s livelihood today comes from a blend of revenue from advertising, events (http://tvnewscheck.com/events), marketing services, webinars and now, subscriber revenue.

We’ve set our annual subscription rate low — and companies with multiple employees who would like subscriptions can enjoy a group rate. Contact Kathy Haley or Samantha Cerminaro to arrange for a group rate.

Other changes: Our MediaJobCenter has a new look and has moved to a simpler platform. Rates remain the same and jobs will continue to be showcased on the home page, most other pages of the website and all of our newsletters. TVNewsCheck continues to regard new jobs as breaking news and will continue to alert readers to new postings as they occur.

One thing, by the way, hasn’t changed. TVNewsCheck’s commitment to provide a one-stop destination for breaking business news as it happens along with the best original content targeted to the needs of TV broadcasters.

We’d like to thank Sephone Interactive Media, the Bangor, Maine-based web design and development firm that created our design and implemented our 12-year old site on WordPress. TVNewsCheck has a huge archive of curated and original news, a searchable TV station directory and some other features that make it a real pain in the you-know-what to re-platform.

The guys at Sephone stuck it out and once they get some sleep, they will be hard at work introducing some other new features we dreamed up while the redesign was underway. One coming up later this summer: a newsletter for MarketShare, Paul Greeley’s popular, video-rich blog about TV marketing.

We want your feedback. Please let Harry Jessell ([email protected]) or Kathy Haley ([email protected]) hear your suggestions.

And if you find a bug, please let us know by emailing us at [email protected].

New design ruined a great website, lots more scrolling and hunting with less information on screen.

Yes, exactly. Same thing that Google News did (twice!) to make it less useful. Fonts that can be read on the moon with lots of white space for no good reason.

    Too bad.
