KIII Names Nia Towne News Director

The former managing editor at WHP Harrisburg, Pa., will run the news operations at Tegna’s ABC affiliate in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Tegna ABC affiliate KIII Corpus Christi, Texas (DMA 128) today appointed Nia Towne to take the helm of its newsroom.

She brings a background of developing advocacy- based and distinctive content to the KIII newsroom. Her work has been recognized with several awards for journalism excellence and investigative reporting.

Most recently, Towne was managing editor and digital media manager for WHP Harrisburg, Pa. Additionally, Towne oversaw digital aspects of news operations for CNYCENTRAL in New York and was interactive content producer for KTVL Medford, Ore.

“Nia is a champion of innovative journalism designed for today’s consumer” said Bruce Cummings, KIII president-GM. “Her valuable expertise in creating multi-platform content will help us continue to reach and serve the people of South Texas.”

When asked about her first focus, Towne said: “The Texas Gulf Coast is undoubtedly a special place and I plan to immerse myself in understanding our South Texas neighbors and viewers and how KIII can best meet their needs.”
