TVS Sets ‘Everyday Heroes’ Veterans Day Tribute

The syndicated Everyday Heroes returns to its roots this month with a Veterans Day tribute honoring those who served in the U.S. military.

“The November show is where it all started,” said James Harris, Everyday Heroes lead producer and partner at Dallas/Fort Worth-based GameDay Productions, which has used the Everyday Heroes platform to highlight extraordinary individuals since 2012. The show is distributed by The Television Syndication Co.

In September, the award-winning production company relaunched the long-running series of specials with an expanded focus, adding features on other worthy heroes like first responders, teachers, healthcare workers as well as other community leaders. Everyday Heroes is now a 12-month slate of 30-minute specials.

Kevin Weik, GameDay president, said the GameDay team originally created the show as a way to tell the inspirational stories of the military heroes they met while helping veteran support organizations award mortgage-free homes and payment-free vehicles to deserving individuals. “When they told us what they were doing, I said, ‘How can we help?’” Weik recalled. “My dad served in the Navy, but I didn’t serve, so this was my way of having our company give back. We kept hearing these incredible stories and decided they must be told.” GameDay produced two Everyday Heroes shows the first year, and quickly expanded to four specials around key holidays, like Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Black History Month.

“Our passion is telling great stories,” said Executive Producer Jerome Butler. “It’s about using our expertise to shine the light on these exceptional people while capturing the collective focus around national events, holidays and observances to help make these incredible voices heard.”

Today, a team of 19 full-time employees and more than 30 freelancers work on the syndicated monthly series that offers television stations an opportunity to localize content in a national show, with 2½-minute segments available to highlight their local area everyday heroes.
