AWM To Honor The Women Of The FCC

The Alliance for Women in Media (AWM) with American University’s Women & Politics Institute, along with AT&T, will host an event for AWM members and special guests to honor “Women of the FCC: Past and Present” on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Katzen Arts Center at American University in Washington, D.C.

The event will include a moderated discussion with former and present FCC women commissioners and an opportunity to engage in dialog with both the FCC and media leadership in attendance. It will culminate in a reception.

Current and former FCC Commissioners Meredith Atwell Baker, Mimi Dawson, Susan Ness, Deborah Taylor Tate and Gloria Tristani have confirmed their participation at the gathering.

Sylvia Strobel, AWM chair, said: “The Alliance for Women in Media is proud of our ongoing dialog with the Federal Communications Commission, and, during such a dynamic time within the media industry, it is exciting, appropriate and beyond due to celebrate the women commissioners past and present.”

“We are pleased to be working with the Alliance for Women in Media to bring together these important leaders in telecommunications”, said Joan Marsh, AT&T VP, federal regulatory. “Their insight and expertise is invaluable, especially as telecommunications continues to drive job and investment growth in this country. According to a recent survey by Women Impacting Public Policy, the majority of women small business owners follow technology and innovation trends in order to incorporate them into their business. With technology and telecommunications being so vital, events like this are more important than ever before. We look forward to having a robust conversation and celebrating the commissioners’ leadership.”

Erin Fuller, AWM president, added: “As we begin to celebrate our 60th anniversary, the Alliance for Women in Media is proud of our many partnerships, many of which are on display at this event, including the FCC and American University’s Women & Politics Institute, as well as support from so many corporations and organizations who will be in attendance.”
