WKRC Names Varner As News Director

Newport Television’s CBS affiliate WKRC Cincinnati (DMA 33) has chosen Kirk Varner as its next news director. Varner joins the station from WTNH/WCTX Hartford, Conn., where he has been VP of news since 2002.

Prior to WTNH/WCTX, Varner spent six years as VP of local news for Time Warner Cable where he developed and launched a statewide 24- hour local news operation.

Varner has also been VP for news and creative services for WIVB Buffalo, N.Y. He also was the first news director for ESPN’s Sports Center. Before getting into management, he had a long history in television news in Boston, South Carolina and New York City.
