Miranda Joins KNBC As Weekend Weathercaster

Veteran Meteorologist Byron Miranda will join NBC O&O KNBC Los Angeles as a weekend meteorologist on May 2, it was announced today by Vickie Burns, VP news and content. In addition to providing weathercasts for the 6 and 11 p.m. weekend newscasts, Miranda will also serve as a fill-in weather anchor during weekday news programs.

Miranda comes to KNBC from KGTV San Diego, where he was the chief meteorologist and weathercaster on the 5, 6, 7 and 11 p.m. newscasts since 2009.

From 2002 to 2005, Miranda worked at KCBS Los Angeles as the chief meteorologist for the station’s Monday through Friday evening newscasts. Miranda has also worked in a number of other major markets including Chicago, San Francisco and had a national presence on CNN for six years.

Miranda began his career as an assignment editor in Oakland, Calif. Before finding his way onto television as meteorologist, he was also an Oakland police officer and an air traffic controller in the U.S. Air Force.

Miranda holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications from California State University, East Bay and has completed the Mississippi State University Broadcast Meteorology Program.
