MNET Unveils New Spring Programming Lineup

Mnet, the only 24/7 English-language nationwide television network in the U.S. targeting Asian Americans and fans of Asian pop culture, has unveiled its new spring line-up spearheaded by a variety of original series.

In a related move, the network has named Julie Choi as Mnet’s first senior vice president of programming and development. Choi, an industry veteran with more than 10 years of programming experience, has produced shows on a wide range of networks, from NBC, CBS, and ABC, to cable channels such as MTV, Lifetime, HGTV, BET, Oxygen and WE tv, and produced shows including Dancing With the Stars, The Biggest Loser and Parental Control.  She has also been involved in development at the CW and BET.

Mnet’s new prime time programming original series line-up will feature:

Short Notice (Mnet original series — a weekly prime time show premieres on Tuesday, April 26, at 8 p.m. ET/PT).  The hour-long series is hosted by actress and stand-up comedian Lilan Bowden and features award-winning Asian American short films and up-close personal talks with the filmmakers including directors, producers, and cinematographers. The series highlights today’s hottest Asian American talent working behind and in front of the camera, and showcase their colorful, eclectic, unique perception of what it means to be Asian American.

Beats Per Mnet (Mnet original series — premieres on Monday, May 16, and airs Monday-Friday at 7 and 10 p.m. ET/PT).  Produced at Mnet’s Los Angeles studio, Beats Per Mnet (BPM) is a daily series highlighting the latest beats in Asian Pop culture from music and fashion to toys, film and food. The show features in studio interviews, on location segments, celebrity interviews music videos and others more. Hosted by stand-up comedian Paul Kim and actress and former model, Yvonne Lu.

Other changes to Mnet’s primetime lineup include:

Monday Night Screams (airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT). The Asian horror film genre premieres on Monday nights featuring some of the most innovative films in the space including Hidden Floor, Antarctic Journal and Screen at Kamchanod.
