Kenneth M. Freedman Named GM Of KWQC

Young Broadcasting today announced the appointment of Kenneth M. Freedman as the new general manager of KWQC, its NBC affiliate in Davenport, Iowa (DMA 99). He joins the station from KGW Portland, Ore., where he was general sales manager, and succeeds interim GM Brian Greif.

An experienced broadcast and new media executive, Freedman has led sales and marketing teams for major broadcast groups including Belo, Fox News Corp., Meredith, Cox and Post-Newsweek, in such diverse markets as Portland, Salt Lake City, New York and Orlando, Fla.

Freedman began his career in sales at WELI-AM in New Haven, Conn., and in New York, where he became the top revenue producer in the country for HRP, advancing in responsibility as VP of sales of the major national rep firm. He also led national and local sales efforts at WKMG, WOFL and WRBW, all in Orlando.

As VP-general sales manager of Fox O&O KSTU Salt Lake City, Freedman led teams that boosted the station’s market share, taking it from third- to first-place in revenues. At Portland’s KGW Media Group, Freedman took on sales responsibilities for both the NBC affiliate and its digital properties, again leading top revenue-generating teams within the Belo Group.
