Vimond Online TV Platform Adds Connected TV

Vimond Media Solutions has added support for connected TVs to the Vimond online TV platform, allowing users to publish services on connected TVs through the use of widgets or TV apps. Vimond’s multiscreen over-the-top (OTT) service platform already supports mobile devices, tablets, set-top boxes and computers. The addition of support for connected TVs means service providers can reach yet another viewing platform from the same infrastructure.

OTT service providers can now publish the same service on many networks and formats simultaneously, without needing parallel setups and vendors. As the connected TV market develops, Vimond says its platform allows users to adapt quickly to support new connected TV models when they are introduced by manufacturers.

“As the developer of the premier online TV platform, we have an obligation to support all devices and screens on which viewers may want to watch their favorite programming,” said Helge Høibraaten, CEO of Vimond Media Solutions. “Extending our capabilities to connected TVs was a must, and this development brings all the usual convenience and efficiency of the Vimond platform to broadcasters who want to service the connected TV audience.”

A broadcaster or operator with an existing OTT service powered by the Vimond platform will be able to adapt the same to a new connected TV interface and deliver directly to television screens over the Web.

“Connected TV apps offer exciting opportunities for television manufacturers to enter the service space, and for content providers to offer services directly to audiences,” said Glenn Pedersen, Vimond’s CTO. “With the Vimond platform, broadcasters can extend their reach across new formats faster than ever before.”

The advanced Vimond platform provides a comprehensive environment for managing and delivering multiformat OTT services, with full facilities for all creative, logistical, and business aspects of the operation. With its modular architecture, Vimond offers tools and controls for every aspect of an OTT service, from ingest and encoding to conditional access and business intelligence reporting.
