WTIC Revamps Morning News Schedule

Tribune’s Fox affiliate in Hartford, Conn., will run its A.M. news block from 4:30 to 10 beginning Sept. 26, while dropping its 11 a.m. newscast. Editor’s note: TVNewCheck reported this yesterday, misidentified WTIC as WCCT, Tribune’s co-owned CW affiliate in the market, and said in the headline that the block started at 5 a.m. We regret the mistakes.

Tribune Broadcasting’s Fox affiliate WTIC Hartford-New Haven, Conn. (DMA 30) is reordering its morning news. Beginning Monday, Sept. 26, the station’s morning news will expand to run through 10 a.m. Logan Byrnes will anchor the 4:30 a.m. half hour with meteorologist Joe Furey. Erika Arias will join the duo from 5 to 10 a.m. At the same time, it’s dropping its 11 a.m. newscast.

“This makes FOX CT news the only station in the market bringing viewers five-and-a-half straight hours of news each weekday morning, “said Richard Graziano, VP-GM of WTIC and co-owned WCCT (CW). “We’re proud to be a station that is growing and expanding.”

Rachel Frank will be joining Byrnes, Arias and Furey from 8 to 10 a.m. Frank will be filling in for Rachel Lutzker who will be on maternity leave. Michael Garofalo, also known as Prolifik, from KISS-FM will report traffic. Frank will continue to forecast weather during the 4 p.m. broadcast. Meteorologist Geoff Fox will take over primary weather duties weekday nights at 10 and 11 p.m. in the interim.
