The community event this Sunday will benefit Connecticut victims of Hurricane Sandy and will ask for non-perishable food, personal care items, warm coats and cash donations.

WVIT Hartford To Hold Storm Relief Drive
NBC-owned WVIT Hartford-New Haven, Conn. (DMA 30), has scheduled a storm relief drive to benefit Connecticut residents affected by Hurricane Sandy. The event will be held Sunday, Nov. 4, in the IKEA parking lot at 450 Sargent Drive in New Haven from 9 a.m. to noon.
Non-perishable food, personal care items, warm coats and cash donations will be accepted by the Connecticut Food Bank, Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.
“NBC Connecticut is pleased to partner with local organizations for this event to help our neighbors get back on their feet after the devastating effects of Sandy,” said David Doebler, NBC Connecticut president-GM.
Donations to be accepted include:
- Warm coats
- 100% fruit juice (cans/bottles/boxes)
- Canned vegetables and fruit
- Chunky soups and beef stew
- Gluten-free products
- Macaroni and cheese
- Peanut butter
- Powdered milk
- Rice and dry or canned beans
- Spaghetti and sauce
- Sugar-free, low sodium and “no salt” items
- Tuna and other canned meat
- Shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes
- Diapers, detergent and deodorant
- Shaving cream, razors and hairbrushes
