JVC’s GY-HM650 Camera Adds Live Features

JVC’s updated version of its GY-HM650 can stream live video in the background while recording footage to multiple file formats.

JVC plans to unveil the GY-HM650 2.0 at this year’s NAB, saying the first version of the handheld camera that was introduced at the 2012 NAB Show only scratched the surface. “We have added direct support for 4G LTE modems and leveraged our unique dual codec technology to generate live TV streams. Now, you can continue to record footage while you transmit video back to your broadcast facility in real time,” Dave Walton, JVC assistant VP of marketing and communications, said in a statement.

The transmit is possible due to the single Verizon modem attached to the base of the camera.

Customers who own the first-generation GY-HM650 will be able to update their camera’s firmware to take advantage of the new features for free.
