Ex-NTIA, FCC Official Anna Gomez Joins Wiley Rein

Anna M. Gomez, who served as the deputy assistant secretary for communications and information at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) since 2009, has joined Wiley Rein in its Washington office as a partner in the communications practice. Gomez will assume a senior leadership role in the firm’s Telecommunications Group.

Michael Senkowski.  “She has served our country at the NTIA, FCC, White House and Congress. She has extensive international and domestic policy experience.  And, she has been at the forefront of major issues in communications, including the Internet and ICANN; telephony and the IP transition; spectrum allocation and policy; public safety and FirstNet; cyber security and national security; privacy and privacy best practices; as well as domestic and international satellite services. Anna strengthens our ability to serve our clients’ needs across the board.”

In her leadership role at NTIA, Gomez had substantial domestic and international responsibilities. She developed and advocated communications policies on behalf of the Administration before state and local governments, international organizations, foreign governments, private organizations, federal agencies and the U.S. Congress. She also advised the White House on information and telecommunications policy issues.

Among her many accomplishments, Gomez successfully oversaw NTIA’s digital television transition program and led efforts that resulted in a new $7 billion public safety broadband network program housed within the agency.

Gomez is a veteran of the FCC, having held positions in the Office of the Chairman, the Wireline Competition Bureau (formerly the Common Carrier Bureau) and finally as deputy chief of the International  Bureau, where she developed and implemented policy on international telecommunications and satellite spectrum, represented the commission at international meetings and helped execute the bureau’s strategic vision.

Gomez served as deputy chief of staff for the National Economic Council of the White House and has related congressional experience on a key U.S. Senate committee. She has additional practical background in the corporate private sector.

A graduate of The George Washington University Law School, Gomez holds a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University. She has received numerous awards during career, including the FCC Chairman’s Award, the FCC Gold Medal and the Women in Cable Telecommunications Service Award.
