Prepping For Fall: Syndie Promo Strategies

Here’s a rundown of some of the promotional spots syndicators are providing their station partners to ramp up interest heading into the upcoming television season.

Marketers from TV stations and Hollywood studios will come together Tuesday through Friday this week at PromaxBDA’s annual Station Summit in Las Vegas to hash out plans to promote this fall’s TV shows. A big part of those plans are promotional spots for syndicated shows that are starting to pop up on stations around the country. Take a look:

CBS Television Distribution

The Arsenio Hall Show will debut this fall, including in major markets on Tribune stations. This is Hall’s second trip to latenight with his own show; his first ended in 1994. But recently Hall has been beefing up his profile with a recurring stint on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and last year he won NBC’s The Celebrity Apprentice.

MGM

The video clip show Right This Minute from station groups Cox Media, E.W. Scripps, Raycom and producer MagicDust in January forged a new partnership with syndicator MGM. In May, the Monday-Friday show started expanding its reach with a new weekend edition in top markets including New York and Los Angeles. BRAND CONNECTIONS

Sony Pictures Television

Queen Latifah from Sony Pictures Television is one of the syndicator’s highest profile shows since the recently renewed Dr. Oz debuted in 2009. The Los Angeles-based talk from Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit and Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment will have celebrity guests, music and feel-good segments in which Latifah helps people in need. CBS Television Stations is the show’s launch group.

Trifecta Entertainment

The daily newsmagazine America Now with co-hosts Leeza Gibbons and Bill Rancic is heading into its fourth season this fall on stations covering nearly 80% of U.S. TV homes. The show provides tips designed to make viewers’ lives easier, like where to find bargains. It’s from Raycom Media and ITV Studios America. It is distributed by Trifecta Entertainment. 

Twentieth Television

Kardashian mom Kris Jenner is getting a talk show test run this summer, starting July 15, with Kris airing on five Fox Television Stations, including WNYW New York and WTTV Los Angeles. The Twentieth Television show aims to give viewers the feel they’re part of the Kardashian family. The set looks like their home, which is prominently featured on the E! show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, and Jenner will have a co-host every day, including some of her famous kids.

Warner Bros.

Bethenny had a successful test run last summer on Fox Television Stations. The show is hosted by reality-star-entrepreneur Bethenny Frankel and is executive produced by Ellen DeGeneres. The show is produced by Telepictures and distributed by Warner Bros. These two spots below, Going There and I’m Bethenny, were sent to TV stations on June 10.

Telelpictures-produced The Real is a View-style panel talk show geared to a younger, more ethnically diverse audience. Its co-hosts: reality star Tamar Braxton, comedian Loni Love, Disney Channel star Adrienne Bailon, How Do I Look? host Jeannie Mai and actress Tamera Mowry-Housley. Warner Bros. is distributing the show, which will get a four-week test run this summer on seven Fox TV Stations, including in New York and Los Angeles.
