Geoff Roth To Head News At WJZY-WMYT

The former executive producer at KRIV Houston will take over news leadership at the new Fox duopoly in Charlotte, N.C.

Geoff Roth has been named vice president of local content for the Fox-owned duopoly of WJZY (Fox)-WMYT (MNT) Charlotte, N.C. (DMA 25). Reporting to Karen Adams, the duopoly’s VP-GM, Roth will be responsible for all news programming, effective Monday, July 8.

Most recently, Roth was executive producer for KRIV Houston. Prior to that, he was an assistant professor of journalism at Hofstra University.

Previously, Roth was a news director at various stations, including KSEE and KMPH Fresno, Calif.; WFTX Fort Myers, Fla.; KSWB San Diego; KSTU Salt Lake City; and WRIC Richmond, Va.

Earlier, Roth held executive producer roles at WPXI Pittsburgh; KMGH Denver; KSTU Salt Lake City; WCIX Miami; and WJKS Jacksonville, Fla. He has held producer positions at stations, including WJLA Washington, WTVJ Miami and KCNC Denver.

He also served as assignment manager/producer for the Washington Bureau of Metromedia News. Roth began his career in broadcasting at Cable News Network as a producer in the Washington Bureau and show producer/writing instructor at the Atlanta headquarters.

Roth holds a Master of Science in journalism, broadcast sequence and a Bachelor of Science in journalism from Northwestern University.

Charlotte’s a fine market. A good move up for him, as well as a fresh challenge.
