WTIC, Hartford Courant Offering Sober Rides

Tribune-owned WTIC Hartford, Conn (DMA 30), and co-ownedHartford Courant, in partnership with Premier Limousine, will offer Connecticut residents “Sober Rides” on Thursday, July 4, as well as Friday and Saturday nights.

The Sober Rides program will provide free and confidential transportation to adults over the age of 21 who might find themselves in unsafe situations when trying to get home at the end of the night. This may include situations when friends have been drinking and should not be driving.

Rich Graziano, president, publisher and CEO of the Hartford Courant and general manager of WTIC-WCCT, says this can have a large impact on Connecticut. “If this program can help save one life, it will be worth it. DUIs have accounted for 504 fatalities in Connecticut over the last five years.”

The program is being endorsed through a series of public service announcements with state and community leaders.
