A group of 19 Senators from both sides of the aisle want more information from the FCC about how the pending spectrum auction will deal with international coordination with Canada and Mexico and TV stations along those borders.

In a letter to Federal Communications Commission Chairwoman Mignon Clyburn, the joint letter is a request for more information about border coordination. It says the appropriate coordination with Canada and Mexico won’t help maximize any auction revenue, but will “ensure sufficient channel allotments for local broadcasters who continue to serve their local communities.”

The coordination is required by the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012.

Senators signing the letter include, Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.; Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisc.; Jon Tester, D-Mont.; Ron Johnson, R-Wisc.; Angus King, D-Maine; Carl Levin, D-Mich.; Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.; Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H.; Susan Collins, R-Maine; Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich.; Richard Durbin, D-Ill.; Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H.; Barbara Boxer, D-Calif.; Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn.; Robert Casey, D-Penn.; Martin Heinrich, D-N.M.; Max Baucus, D-Mont.; and Al Franken, D-Minn.

If these legislators are looking for specifics they will be disappointed. The FCC will give them the usual, “We’re working on it…no, really,” rubbish. Despite the promises of transparency, the Commission is just as opaque as ever.
