Kim Hart Named Wheeler’s Press Secretary

She is a former Neustar executive and technology journalist in Washington.

The FCC today appointed Kim Hart press secretary to Chairman Tom Wheeler. Hart will serve as commission spokeswoman in FCC’s Office of Media Relations, led by Communications Director Shannon Gilson.

Hart previously was director of corporate communications at Neustar, a Virginia-based information services and analytics company. Before joining Neustar in 2012, she was Politico’s senior technology reporter, focusing on policy issues affecting the technology and telecommunications industries. At Politico, she helped launch the Morning Tech daily newsletter and Politico Pro, the publication’s subscription news service.

Previously, she launched and wrote the Hillicon Valley blog for The Hill and covered technology as a business reporter and columnist The Washington Post.

She studied journalism and public relations at the University of Florida and received a master’s degree in public affairs journalism from the University of Maryland. She has taught journalism classes at Georgetown University and George Washington University.

He needs more then a press secretary. Wheeler needs a handler to prevent him from making rash policy announcements. He also needs to surround himself with advisors who are more balanced in their thinking; not ones who only think as he does and certainly not advisors who uniformly hate broadcasters.
