Gannett Names Alison Engel VP Of Finance

The former CFO of A.H. Belo will now report to Gannett President Gracia Martore.

Gannett Co. today named Alison “Ali” Engel, formerly senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of A.H. Belo Corp., as its vice president of finance, reporting to Gannett President-CEO Gracia Martore.

“Ali has strong leadership skills and outstanding financial expertise in addition to experience with the A. H. Belo spinoff, which will be invaluable to us as we continue to move forward with our separation plans,” said Martore. In August, Gannett announced it would create two publicly traded companies: one focused on its publishing business and the other focused on its broadcasting and digital businesses.

Engel served A.H. Belo since its spinoff in 2008 from Belo Corp., and her responsibilities included accounting, financial planning and analysis, tax, treasury, risk management and internal audit. She was responsible for managing A.H. Belo’s financial practices, including accounting, financial planning, treasury, tax and investor relations.

Engel joined Belo Corp. in 2003 as director/accounting operations. She served as corporate controller from February 2005 to December 2005 and as VP-corporate controller from January 2006 to July 2008.

Engel has more than 19 years of financial management experience at diversified multi-unit business organizations and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Engel’s previous responsibilities have encompassed financial reporting and audits, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, income statement analysis and SEC financial filings.

Engel earned a master’s in professional accounting and bachelor’s of business administration in accounting at the University of Texas at Austin. She is a certified public accountant.
