Raycom Stations Adding Livestream For News

With the addition, the online news channel now reaches 46 of the top 50 local television markets and is deployed at more than 200 stations.

Livestream, the Brooklyn-based technology company with 300,000 producers streaming live events to over 40 million viewers a month, today announced that its Livestream for News service has been selected by Raycom Media for all of its television news stations.

With this expanded association, Livestream for News is now deployed at more than 200 commercial television stations across the United States — equal to about one third of the market.

“Livestream for News creates a 24/7 online news channel by streaming a station’s live newscast and the most recent newscast,” said Clayton Rose, GM, Livestream for News. “As one of the country’s leading media companies, Raycom requires best of breed digital solutions — we are thrilled to be working with Raycom and are committed to delivering industry-leading news products to benefit all of our broadcast partners.”

Livestream for News also allows stations to dynamically insert online ads into the broadcasts’ commercial breaks, creating a new online revenue stream for broadcasters.

“Livestream gives us the ability to monetize our newscasts online just like we do on-air. By enabling a 24/7 online news channel, Livestream for News allows our viewers to get valuable information whenever they want, on any internet-enabled device,” said Joe Fiveash, VP, digital media, strategy and business development, Raycom Media.

Livestream is also the primary streaming provider for Fox Television Stations, Tribune Media, Media General, Meredith, Journal Broadcasting, and Schurz Communications.

BRAND CONNECTIONS

Livestream for News is available at no cost to the station with the business model being an inventory split. Alternatively, broadcasters can also select a monthly licensing fee.

I tried watching this stream – Quality is horrible , Delays longer than 1 min, it stutters even though I am watching on broadband with 150Mbps download.
I can understand a parent using livestream to stream highschool event but definitely expect better from major broadcasters like Fox and Raycom Media. I hope that future of live TV is better than this.

As bad as Livestream for News is, it’s a whole lot better than what Hearst and Sinclair are using.

I like Livestream tech (and its business model). Let’s face it, local TV news isn’t a Netflix original in 4K. Especially for low motion, predictable (2-shot, VO, PKG, liveshot) formats– Livestream delivers value for viewers and stakeholders.
