Official Word: Comcast-TWC Merger Dead

Comcast Corp. this morning issued a statement that its merger with Time Warner Cable has been terminated. Chairman-CEO Brian L. Roberts: "Today, we move on. Of course, we would have liked to bring our great products to new cities, but we structured this deal so that if the government didn’t agree, we could walk away. Comcast NBCUniversal is a unique company with strong momentum. Throughout this entire process, our employees have kept their eye on the ball and we have had fantastic operating results. I want to thank them and the employees of Time Warner Cable for their tireless efforts. I couldn’t be more proud of this company and I am truly excited for what’s next."

If this merger had happened, I would have transferred to Direct-TV.

Why? Just out of spite? Do you know if your bill would have gone up? Would the quality of cable/internet gone down? Do you know any of the facts? Doubtful.

So to make it clear, Yude would have dropped Broadband if the merger happened? ROFLMAO.

Don’t you mean you and yours won……Until Charter takes over and TWC Employees and TWC Customers get hosed worse.

Insider – your prediction track record is pretty dismal.

Funny, 2 hours after I posted this Bloomberg is reporting it Charter Advisers had already met with TWC about it.

The fact of the matter is Comcast and TWC both have crap customer service. TWC’s infrastructure sucks, Comcast is overpriced, and it is well known that mergers end up with little to no benefit to the consumer. It is refreshing to see our regulators take a stand and the 10,000 plus comments against this posted at the FCC alone seemed to make enough noise to end it.

And Charter is worse. Again. Lesser of two evils, I (and any sane person) would chose Comcast over Charter. Now Charter+TWC+Brighthouse to the alter as a challenge to Comcast in Govt eyes – and an additional 11M customers suffer with Charter Customer Service (BTW @HopeUMakeIt, Charter is the only one of the major MVPDs that uses overseas CSR). Many more in USA to lose jobs than would have under Comcast – and much worse customer service.

I have had both Charter and Comcast. Charter has begun moving customer service back to the USA. Both companies off-shore American jobs. Both have performance issues. Charter, in my area, is a little cheaper. Anxiously awaiting Google’s internet service.

Insider – to be clear, Comcast also has overseas customer service representatives (which is what I assume you meant by “CSR”). I know, as I have spoken with them, far too often. Some Comcast CSRs are in the U.S., but many are not. I don’t know how Comcast decides which CSR you get when you call, but I assume it is simply a matter of the number of callers at any given time.

People had claimed that happened only in overnight hours several years ago when they were transferred to Delhi. People had claimed that was not the case any longer. I have no reason to disbelieve you. Has this happened recently or during normal hours? But bottom line, Comcast scores better than Charter on Customer Service Studies.

TWC should be courting Google. A cable-to-cable merger is not the solution. TWC has the content. Google has the infrastructure, advanced technologies and is poised to become the a more affordable, more encompassing content solution. We no longer live in a linear world. It’s amazing to me that companies as antiquated as Charter are still in business. Comcast does not need TWC. They have NBCU. Now, if they can just figure out how to leverage their own assets…
