Sinclair Names Eric Land GM In Birmingham

The group brings in the former GM of WTLV-WJXX Jacksonville to run its ABC, CW and MNT stations in Alabama.

Sinclair Broadcast Group today appointed Eric Land general manager of WBMA (ABC), WTTO (CW) and WABM (MNT) in the Birmingham-Anniston-Tuscaloosa, Ala., market (DMA 43). Land will also oversee WDBB, which simulcasts WTTO’s programming pursuant to a time brokerage agreement.

He succeeds Mike Murphy who left in March to be GM of KMOV St. Louis.

Land most recently was president-GM of WTLV and WJXX Jacksonville, Fla., from 2012 to 2014. From 2009 to 2012, he was the president-CEO of Walkabout Air Aviation in Tampa, Fla., and from 2006 to 2009, he was the COO of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Prior to that he held various management and sales positions, including GM of WFLA Tampa; WIAT Birmingham, Ala.; WGRZ Buffalo, N.Y.; and WEYI Flint-Saginaw, Mich.

Land graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in radio/television from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
