Jessica R. Herrera-Flanigan joins the Hispanic broadcaster in a newly created position to oversee the company’s Washington office and lobbying efforts.
Univision Names New Govt. Relations EVP
Univision Communications today announced the appointment of Jessica R. Herrera-Flanigan to executive vice president, government relations and public policy, effective immediately. Herrera-Flanigan will be based in Washington and report to Jonathan Schwartz, general counsel-EVP, government relations.
In this newly created position, Herrera-Flanigan will oversee the UCI Washington office, where she will lead the company’s federal and state government relations efforts and focus on developing strategies for addressing the key public policy issues impacting the company and the U.S. Hispanic community.
Bert Gomez, SVP, federal and state government relations, and Belinda Garza, VP, government relations and public engagement — who have been instrumental in building UCI’s political reach in Congress and at the state level — will report directly to Herrera-Flanigan. Together, they will continue to work to enhance UCI’s presence in Washington and key state capitols, as well as extend the company’s communications with non-traditional stakeholders, such as business and trade associations, think tanks and a range of federal and state agencies.
Herrera-Flanigan most recently was a partner at Monument Policy Group, where she worked with clients on issues related to media, technology, immigration and diversity, as well as advised on crisis communications and management. Prior to that, Herrera-Flanigan was the staff director and general counsel for the House Committee on Homeland Security.
She has held various other government service positions, including serving as senior counsel in the Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division; Vice Chair of the U.S. Delegation to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Experts Group on International Information Security; and special assistant U.S. Attorney working on fraud and public corruption cases in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C.
She is a fellow at the Center for National Policy and a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Additionally, she serves as the co-chair of the ABA’s Committee on e-privacy law and is on the ABA’s Science & Technology Division Council.
