Imagine, EVS Partner On Live IP Production

Imagine Communications and EVS jointly announced Thursday, on the eve of IBC 2015 in Amsterdam, that the companies are partnering on standards for IP signal distribution to promote best-of-breed solutions for end-to-end live IP production

The companies will embrace the SMPTE 2022 and JPEG2000 as initial core standards for moving compressed IP signals and SDI and in an IP ecosystem.

During the Imagine Communications press conference, Charlie Vogt, company CEO, said EVS and Imagine have been working on the partnership for the past year.

“EVS and Imagine are strategically coming together to deliver next-generation solutions, specifically around live news and sports [and] around playout and automation and networking,” he said.

EVS CEO Muriel De Lathouwer joined Vogt on stage during the press conference to comment on the partnership.

“When we met at NAB a few months ago around a glass of wine, we realized that we were sharing a lot of things together,” De Lathouwer said.

“First, we both come from the telecom industry, which helps to have a similar vision, and second we actually had the same vision regarding the transition to IP,” she said.

Both companies are enthusiastic about the IP-related benefits of interoperability, open standards and the IP-SDI hybrid approach. The top company executives also realized their respective product lines complemented each other’s well, she added.

“One of the things that is exciting for us in this relationship is that we have two companies that have significant share in the market that are coming together, embracing IP and embracing a standard in how we are going to deploy next-generation solutions,” she said.

EVS products are widely used in live production of sports and news, while Imagine Communications has four pillars to its product line, including ad management, playout, networking and infrastructure and distribution.
