Erik Schrader Named President-GM Of WIAT

Media General moves the head of its Wichita NBC affiliate to take over leadership of its CBS affil in Birmingham, Ala., following the promotion of Helen Swenson.

Media General today appointed Erik Schrader president and general manager of WIAT, its CBS affiliate in Birmingham, Ala. (DMA 45). He succeeds Helen Swenson, who accepted a corporate position with Media General.

Schrader comes to WIAT after serving as president-GM of KSN, Media General’s NBC affiliate in Wichita, Kan.

In his new role that is effective immediately, Schrader will provide strategic direction, leadership and operational management for WIAT. He will report to Stan Knott, VP of broadcast markets for Media General.  “It’s great to have Eric on board at WIAT.  His success in delivering audiences in a connected screen world and improving revenue performance will be an asset for us,” Knott said.

Schrader has more than 20 years of industry experience. In his most recent position at KSN, he oversaw the successful transition to HD, the design of a new state-of-the-art news set and a complete weather product upgrade for on-air, online and mobile screens.

In addition, Erik and his team unveiled a new brand image and earned several awards, including a Regional Murrow Award and the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Award for best website. Media General said his leadership skills helped revitalize KSN’s sales department, grow revenue share and significantly increase digital sales.

Prior to his role at KSN, he was news director of WTNH-WCTX Hartford-New Haven, Conn.

Schrader has also served as news director at KODE Joplin, Mo.; KSPR Springfield, Mo.; WJCL-WTGS Savannah, Ga.; and WNEP Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
