Sinclair Makes Two GM Appointments

The group owner moves John Nizamis from head of WNWO Toledo, Ohio, to lead WSBT South Bend, Ind., and promotes Charity Freeman to succeed him.

Sinclair Broadcast Group today named John Nizamis general manager of CBS affiliate WSBT South Bend-Elkhart, Ind. (DMA 96), and promoted Charity Freeman to GM of NBC affil WNWO Toledo, Ohio (DMA 77).

In making the announcement regarding Nizamis, Steve Pruett, co-COO of Sinclair’s television group, said: “John has been successful at leading his team in Toledo since joining Sinclair in 2014. As we welcome the team in South Bend, John, with his over 30 years of sales and management experience, will play an important role in transitioning the station and growing our relationship with both the local advertisers and community.”

Regarding Freeman’s appointment, Pruett said: “In the over 10 years that Charity has worked in broadcasting she has seen many sides of the business from her roles in news reporting to her most recent positions in sales management.  We believe this experience will be an asset to the station and the community as she advances her career with Sinclair.”

Nizamis most recently was GM of WNWO Toledo since 2014. Since 2008, he worked as general sales manager at WPTA and WISE Fort Wayne, Ind. From 2006 to 2008, he was the local sales manager at WTVH Syracuse, N.Y.

For more than five years he held various positions at WROC and WUHF Rochester, N.Y., including local sales manager, national sales manager and general sales manager. Prior to that, he held various other positions including account executive, local sales manager, and general sales manager at WZNE-FM, WUHF and WHEC, all Rochester, N.Y., and WTVR Richmond, Va.  Nizamis graduated with a degree in speech communications and broadcasting from The State University of New York (SUNY) in Geneseo, N.Y.

Freeman has been general sales manager of WNWO Toledo since 2014. From 2002 to 2014, she held various positions at WPTA and WISE Fort Wayne, including account executive and then local sales manager. She started her broadcasting career in 1997 in news at WHIO Dayton, Ohio. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communications from Anderson University in Anderson, Ind.
