The winners of the annual awards for exceptional professional journalism will be honored at an awards banquet June 21 at the National Press Club in Washington. Entries included submissions from television and radio broadcasts, newspapers, online news outlets and magazines. The TV station winners included KPRC, WDIO, KARE, WVUE, WTHR, KCCI, KDVR, WVUE, KNTV and WVUE.
In a new study conducted by the Institute for the Future, a California-based nonprofit think tank, researchers found more than 80% of journalists admitted to falling for false information online. The data was based on a survey of 1,018 journalists at regional and national publications in the United States.

LaMarca, a longtime Today staffer who left NBC News in 2017 after a long run, will return as the new head of the 10 a.m. hour that is now led by Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. The hour is in the midst of a transition: Kotb’s long-time co-host, Kathie Lee Gifford, recently stepped down, succeeded by Hager. And on Monday, NBCUniversal announced that Tammy Filler, the fourth hour’s longtime chief, would move over to E! to help run an expanded news operation.

Sinclair Plots National News Expansion
Sinclair Broadcast Group, the massive local conservative broadcaster that’s been criticized for pushing Pro-Trump talking points, has been hiring a slew of ex-mainstream news anchors as it pushes into national news coverage. It’s also reportedly in the running to buy up a handful of Fox’s regional sports networks. Sinclair’s hiring spree suggests that it’s looking to position itself as a national news competitor to Fox News ahead of the 2020 election, and as an overall competitor to big broadcasters with its foray into sports coverage.
