CBS daytime show The Talk announced Tuesday that frequent guest host Jerry O’Connell is joining the show as a permanent co-host.

Amazon and Sony Pictures TV have struck a deal that will bring an extensive catalog of legendary producer Norman Lear’s shows to the Amazon’s Prime Video and IMDb TV streaming services. The titles headed to the two platforms are Maude, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, 227, Good Times, the original One Day at a Time, Diff’rent Strokes, Sanford & Son and Sanford.

Fox’s coverage of the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday averaged 6.76 million total viewers (per fast affiliates), down just a tick from the prelim numbers for the 2019 contest (7.1M).

Lower PUT levels, preemptions and vacations depressed numbers with Drew Barrymore and Dr. Oz the only first-run daytime strips of any type posting week-to-week gains.

The best case that can be made for the awards in 2021, when the TV landscape has been irreparably fragmented not just by demographics but by subscriber base, is that it helps solidify a reigning canon of water-cooler shows. And if the goal is to help TV become a community-building medium again, the 2021 slate of nominations are more than sufficient, collecting the highlights of the past year on TV and reflecting how scattered they are across various channels and services.

The nominations reinforced the rapid rise of streaming, with most of the top-nominated scripted shows on services that emerged in the past two years. The Television Academy is poised to reward streaming services when the nominations for the 73rd Emmy Awards are announced on CBS and Paramount+ at 11:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday. Jerry O’Connell, a favorite among daytime TV fans, is nearing a deal to become a full-time co-host on The Talk, a person with knowledge of the conversations says. He’ll effectively replace Sharon Osbourne, who left the CBS show in March. A second individual says negotiations between O’Connell and the talk show have been on and off since at least May.

As of Aug. 13, the cost of a subscription will go to $7 a month, from $6, mirroring a recent uptick for Disney+. A full-year subscription will now run $70, up from $60.

CBS looked inside its own neighborhood to find this year’s Emmy host: Cedric the Entertainer will take the stage when the 73rd Primetime Emmys airs on Sept. 19. Cedric the Entertainer stars in the Eye network comedy The Neighborhood, which airs Mondays (and likely returns the night after the Emmys, kicking off the entire fall 2021 TV season for CBS).

The network has set a staggered return schedule for its scripted originals, with a few launching during the traditional Premiere Week in late September and several others stretching into October.

ABC’s coverage of the NBA Finals dominated Sunday, though Game 3 — with 6.4 million total viewers with a 1.8 demo rating, per preliminary numbers. Trailing was this season’s first Sunday installment of Big Brother, which did 3.7M — up 23% from last summer’s Sunday opener —  and a 0.8. Leading out of that, Love Island (1.33M/0.3) was steady in the demo yet posted its smallest audience of the season.

The sports channels still lack YouTube TV, Hulu, fuboTV carriage. Dish negotiations are expected in August.

Denver’s FBI office said late on Sunday it does not believe the four people arrested with massive weaponry and body armor were planning an attack on Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game, set for Tuesday near the site of the arrests. The FBI Denver tweeted that it is not aware of any threat to the All-Star Game events, venues, players or the community at this time. However, it did not explain why the four arrestees had the weapons cache and body armor in the downtown Denver area.

NBC penned in its special series debut after the Tokyo Olympics with Family Game Fight!, hosted by Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. The reality game show series is set to premiere Sunday, Aug. 8 at 10:30 p.m. ET, immediately after the Olympics Closing Ceremony. There will be a time-period premiere with an all-new episode on Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 9 p.m. Ultimate Slip ‘N Slide was originally slated for the post-Closing Ceremony premiere with Family Game Fight! taking the Aug. 11 spot. However, due to a giardia outbreak during the water-based game show’s production, NBC ultimately decided to nix the premiere.
