‘9-1-1’ Sails To 2-Year Audience High In Delayed Viewing With Conclusion Of ‘Poseidon Adventure’ Arc

Audiences seem to have enjoyed 9-1-1 paying homage to The Poseidon Adventure. Bobby and Athena’s three-episode cruise ship disaster came to a dramatic conclusion during the March 28 episode which, after seven days of multi-platform viewing, became the series’ most-watched telecast in more than two years. According to Disney, the episode drew 10.72 million viewers in seven days of viewing across ABC, Hulu and digital platforms. That’s nearly double the audience of 5.5 million that tuned in live + same-day.

‘9-1-1’ Canceled By Fox, Will Move To ABC For Season 7

In a clear sign of broadcast’s evolving business realities, Fox has opted not to renew its highest rated scripted series, 9-1-1, produced by 20th Television. The upcoming Season 6 finale on May 15 will be its last episode on Fox. But it will not be a series finale for the first responder drama, from creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, which has been picked up by 20th TV sibling ABC and will join the Disney network’s lineup next season, making for one of the highest-profile series moves ever.

‘9-1-1’ Set To Premiere On USA Network

9-1-1 has been acquired by NBCUniversal’s USA Network and the drama about first responders in Los Angeles will start airing in a four-hour primetime block on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The deal between NBCUniversal Television and Streaming and Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution covers all four existing seasons of the show — which stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause and Jennifer Love Hewitt — as well the current fifth season and any upcoming seasons. The current season will debut on USA later this year.
