Today at 1 p.m. ET the ABC culinary feast marks its 500th edition with a special hour as its five co-hosts savor their chat-and-chew success. “The Chew was never about food, it was about these five people,” says executive producer Gordon Elliott before a recent taping at the show’s Manhattan studio.

ABC Blasts Dish’s Hopper In Injunction Appeal

When it lost a summary injunction back in September, the network said it wasn’t done trying to get Dish Network’s Hopper service shut down and on Wednesday ABC took another swing at it. In a brief dated Nov. 12 and filed yesterday (read it here) with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, ABC and Disney Enterprises went after the satellite provider’s ad-jumping DVR service again.

ABC Makes Midseason Schedule Moves

ABC has firmed up its midseason scheduling plans. With Super Fun Night getting only a back-4 order, ABC will try out another new comedy series, Mixology, in the Wednesday 9:30 p.m. slot behind Modern Family. Meanwhile, Suburgatory will return to its original Tuesday 8:30 p.m. slot. It’s also making changes to some previously announced midseason moves. Once Upon A Time and Revenge are still slated to return from their winter hiatuses on March 9, joined by new drama Resurrection. But Revenge will move to 10 p.m., with Resurrection taking over its 9 o’clock slot.

ABC Wins, Halloween Scares Ratings Down

TV viewing levels were down dramatically as children were trick-or-treating through the neighborhood. ABC came in first averaging a 2.6, led by Scandal at 10 p.m., which finished as the top show of the night. An hour earlier, Gray’s Anatomy drew a 2.6, down 7% from last week. The end of the MLB season hurt Fox, which ran a special recap of The X-Factor contestants, scoring a 0.7. CBS, which came in second, ran a rerun of The Big Bang Theory. The Millers and The Crazy Ones dropped to a 2.0 and 1.9, respectively.

Counting the first three weeks of the fall TV season, those are the top-rated broadcast shows among upscale young adults. In this context, “upscale young adults” are people in the key 18-49 age demographic in homes with a yearly income of $100,000 or more.

Cablevision Blasts Bcstrs’ SCOTUS Filing

Cablevision Systems Corp. criticized the arguments made by broadcasters in a Supreme Court filing seeking to shut down Aereo, a start-up company that delivers local television station signals to consumers via the Internet. Cablevision said the case that broadcasters including Fox, CBS, ABC and NBC are attempting to make against Aereo is a “willful attempt to stifle innovation.”

After celebrating its big program ratings win in the last several months over longtime market leader NBC’s Today, ABC’s Good Morning America now touts another honor — one more important to national TV advertisers. Sunday’s A Rough Night For ABC’s ‘Betrayal’

ABC has already canceled one new drama this season, and another is struggling as well. Last night the network’s 10 p.m. show Betrayal slid 27% from last week’s already-low premiere, to a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating. The show got less lead-in support from Revenge, ABC’s 9 p.m. drama, which fell 17% from last week to a 1.9. Betrayal bowed to a 1.5 last week, the third-worst rating for any new show.

ABC’s ‘Lucky 7′ Canceled After 2 Episodes

We have the first casualty of the 2013-14 broadcast season. ABC has pulled freshman drama Lucky 7 after two episodes, the second one posting that unlucky 0.7 adults 18-49 rating on Tuesday. Starting next week, ABC will air repeats of red-hot Scandal — which hit series highs in its third-season premiere last night — in Lucky 7‘s Tuesday 10 p.m. slot until settling on a permanent replacement.

ABC’s Lineup Scores With Upscale Viewers

Just a little more than one week into the new season, ABC is taking credit for delivering the best upscale viewers — provided you don’t account for big network primetime sports programming. ABC says it easily dominates over its three main rivals — when looking at non-sports primetime programming for the first week of the season. ABC earned a 2.8 average 18-49 rating among those making $100,000 a year or more and a 2.9 for those making $150,000.
