The charitable organization that provides financial aid to broadcasters in acute need from critical illness, accident or serious misfortune will honor the careers of six individuals with its Leadership Awards and the Lowry Mays Excellence in Broadcasting Award at the event in Las Vegas.

WVLT’s live streaming news coverage of two men trapped in a collapsed trench and a 6-year-old boy lost in the woods earned an award from its owner, Gray Television.

The ceremony, held Sunday at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., and broadcast on both TNT and TBS, was notably border-breaking, with historic wins for deaf actors, Korean stars and some of Hollywood’s biggest names.

Long Island University released the winners of the George Polk Awards in Journalism, honoring journalists in 15 categories for their reporting in 2021. Award winners span a wide range of revelatory news coverage. The broadcasting winners included Dave Biscobing of KNXV, the E.W. Scripps ABC affiliate in Phoenix, who was honored for Local Television Reporting for “Politically Charged,” a series of reports revealing that police and prosecutors testified to the existence of a street gang they invented to convince a grand jury to authorize surveillance of political protestors. Also honored were ABC News anchor David Muir, executive producer Almin Karamehmedovic and producer Esther Castillejo; A.C.Thompson of ProPublica and two collaborators, PBS Frontline and the Berkeley Investigative Reporting Program; and CNN Chief Foreign Correspondent Clarissa Ward and her crew who won for Foreign Television Reporting.

The Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock alum is one of just nine recipients of the century-old club’s prize.

The 27th Critics Choice Awards are going global. The Critics Choice Association announced Wednesday morning that its upcoming awards ceremony’s telecast will unfold with broadcasts from events in both London and Los Angeles. The upcoming ceremony will be hosted by Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer, broadcasting on both The CW and TBS on March 13 at 7 p.m. ET. Notably, the new date for the Critics Choice Awards happens to coincide with the BAFTA Awards.

Stations winners were KXTV Sacramento, Calif.; KNXV Phoenix; KNTV San Francisco; and KARE Minneapolis.

The Producers Guild of America will honor producer, writer, and director Greg Berlanti with its Norman Lear Achievement Award during the Producers Guild Awards next month in Los Angeles.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has announced the recipients of the 73rd  Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards. The ceremony will take place April 25 at the Wynn Encore Ballroom in Las Vegas during the NAB Show (April 23-27).

The 59-year-old Stewart rose to prominence as a standup comic and host of multiple failed talk shows before taking over Comedy Central’s The Daily Show in 1999. His 16-year run as Daily Show host turned him into a cultural and political force as Stewart trained his satirical eye on both politics and an increasingly polarized national media.

The Critics Choice Association has announced that it will hold the 2022 Critics Choice Awards ceremony on March 13, the same day as the BAFTA Awards, after being delayed from January. Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer will host the 27th Critics Choice Awards at an in-person event at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Century City, Calif. The CW and TBS will air a live broadcast of the ceremony at 7 p.m. ET.

The sportscaster will be honored during the Broadcasters Foundation of America’s Golden Mike Award fundraising dinner at New York’s Plaza Hotel on March 14.

Following an announcement that there would be no red carpet or celebrity guests, the HFPA confirmed the event will be private with winners announced only online.

As expected, the Grammy Awards, originally scheduled for Jan. 31 on CBS, have been postponed indefinitely due to coronavirus-related concerns, a Recording Academy spokesperson has confirmed. No new date has been confirmed.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association , often ridiculed, even by its own hosts, this year went from punchline to pariah. After a Los Angeles Times’ expose detailed some of the HFPA’s unethical behavior and revealed that its 87 voting members didn’t include one Black journalist, studios said they would boycott the Globes and more than 100 PR films said their clients wouldn’t participate until the HFPA swiftly implemented “profound and lasting change.” The group will announce nominations early Monday, Dec. 13.

The Murrow Awards recognize excellence in broadcast, digital and student journalism. Only work published between Jan. 1, 2021, and Dec. 31, 2021, will be eligible for entry. The deadline for entry is 5 p.m. ET, Feb. 10, 2022. Regional winners will be announced in late spring 2022 and national winners will be announced in summer 2022. National winners will be honored at the 2022 Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala on Oct. 10, 2022, in New York City.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is forging ahead with a way to recognize the best of this year’s film and television achievements despite the fact that NBC will not televise this year’s Golden Globes ceremony.
