The Radio Television Digital News Association will present Susan Zirinsky with the 2021 Paul White Award for her achievements in and contributions to the field of electronic journalism. The award-winning broadcast journalist first joined CBS News in the 1970s at the age of 20 two weeks after the Watergate scandal. In 2019, after a nearly 50-year tenure, she was appointed the first female president and senior executive producer of CBS News, which she held until April 2021. She now has a production partnership with ViacomCBS.

The CW Joins Simulcast Of MTV’s VMAs

The CW will simulcast the Sept. 12 Video Music Awards that originate on MTV, a ViacomCBS sibling of The CW. The event happens at the Barclays Center in New York. With the 2021 event occurring a day after the 20th anniversary of 9/11, MTV is collaborating with 9/11 Day for a series of service-oriented activities during the week leading up to the VMAs, promoting awareness and positive action in observance of the 20th anniversary of the tragedy.

News & Documentary Emmy Nominations: ‘60 Minutes’ & ‘Vice News Tonight’ Lead Programs; PBS Tops Nets

PBS leads the nominations for the 42nd annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards, as it usually does, this year scoring 52 noms over last year’s 48. Vice News Tonight, which topped all programs with 16 noms in 2020, equaled that number this year but is tied with CBS’s 60 Minutes.

Emmys Governors Balls Canceled For Second Year

The Television Academy has once again canceled the post-Emmys Governors Balls, and has also announced that the Creative Arts Emmys will return to the weekend before the Primetime Emmys telecast, and take place on Saturday, Sept. 11, and Sunday, Sept. 12. Just like the plans for this year’s Primetime Emmys ceremony, the live audience for the Creative Arts Emmys will be limited to nominees and their guests, and be held at the Microsoft Theatre in downtown Los Angeles’ LA Live complex.
