AMC Networks CEO Christina Spade Exits After Less Than Three Months In Role

In a surprising move, AMC Networks Chief Executive Officer Christina Spade has stepped down from her role after only three months. In a short statement, the AMC Networks board of directors said it is finalizing who it will name as a replacement.

AMC Networks has appointed COO and CFO Christina Spade as its new CEO, succeeding Matt Blank, who has held the role in an interim capacity since last September. Patrick O’Connell, previously a senior executive at CBS Corp. and Goldman Sachs, has in turn been named executive vice president, chief financial officer, reporting to Spade.

Viacom and CBS aim to prosper in the streaming arena by covering both ends of the marketplace, blending Viacom’s focus on ad-supported platforms with CBS’s strong head start on subscribers for CBS All Access and Showtime. ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish and incoming CFO Christina Spade outlined the combined company’s vision for how it will best monetize the $13 billion in content spending across the two companies that are expected to complete the merger agreement announced last month by year’s end.

Christina Spade, Showtime’s chief financial officer, has been named EVP and Chief Financial Officer at CBS Corp., the latest move from president and interim CEO Joe Ianniello in restructuring the company’s exec suite after the departure of longtime CEO Les Moonves.
