President Trump lashed out at journalists during a surly and contentious news conference at the White House on Wednesday, renewing his attacks on the news media as “the enemy of the people” just moments after pledging an end to partisan politics in the wake of a grueling midterm election. “CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them,” Trump told CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta
Leading newspapers and TV networks say they will not be caught by surprise if tonight’s midterm election results take unexpected turns. “I have no idea what’s going to happen,” says CNN Washington bureau chief Sam Feist.

A third suspicious package addressed to CNN has been found and removed from a postal facility in Atlanta, Georgia, where the cable network is based. “This morning, another suspicious packaged addressed to CNN was intercepted at an Atlanta post office,” CNN president Jeff Zucker wrote in a memo to staffers on Monday morning. “There is no imminent danger to the CNN Center.”
“We always have a studio that is ready to go on air at any moment,” a CNN insider familiar with its logistics says. Following yesterday’s discovery of a pipe bomb at its New York headquarters, the cable network managed to remain on the air as the network’s live feed jumped between anchors in Washington and New York — with Big Apple reporters doing the bulk of their work from phones and hot-spot connections on Manhattan city streets.
CNN’s Time Warner Center office was evacuated on Wednesday in response to the discovery of a suspicious package, the network’s journalists reported on air. “The New York bomb squad unit right in front of the building, they are taking this very seriously,” morning anchor Jim Sciutto said. The package was found inside the mailroom, after it was delivered. Sciutto said the network is not aware of any injuries.
Sometime in the next week, CNN’s parent company Turner will be filing court papers providing evidence for how it has allegedly been cheated by Dish Network out of license payments for the cable news network. The case has remained under the radar for more than a year since it was initially filed under seal.

President Donald Trump set aside his complaints about tech companies and foreign leaders, at least for the moment, to return to his comfort zone of blasting the TV news business. In three morning tweets the president said the “hatred and extreme bias of me by @CNN has clouded their thinking and made them unable to function.” He also ripped into NBC News, anchor Lester Holt and president Andy Lack.
CNN’s story, written on July 27, said that Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen was willing to say that he heard Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., tell his father about the Russians’ offer to share material about Clinton, his Democratic rival for the presidency. CNN said it had more than one source for its story, which it stands behind, co-authored by Jim Sciutto and Watergate legend Carl Bernstein.
Few reporters have lived the Trump administration’s war against the press more vividly than April Ryan, a 21-year veteran of the White House press corps and CNN contributor who has seen her national profile grow along with concerns about her physical safety.

The Justice Department’s antitrust case against AT&T reached a crescendo Wednesday as government lawyers asked an economist to explain how the telecom giant’s proposed $85 billion merger with Time Warner would lead to higher cable bills for consumers.
On Tuesday, a link to a four-minute video specifically attacking CNN was posted atop the web sites of Sinclair’s stations. The video calls the network reprehensible for reporting on its directives, and said the “fake news” message was similar to warnings that CNN and its media reporter, Brian Stelter, have been giving for years. The video shows clips of Stelter’s reports. “Is it really news that fake news is a concern in 2018, or is this an attack on Sinclair?” the company said in Tuesday’s video.
