Life After Oprah: Talkers Strong In Week One
In the week ending Sept. 18, Dr. Phil started its 10th season with a 3.9 rating – a 63% increase from the week before – its highest season premiere since 2004. Dr. Oz came in second with a 2.9 season premiere week, up 61% from the week before. And Ellen’s rating climbed 53% percent from the previous week to 2.3, making it her strongest season premiere ever.
Life Beyond Oprah Comes Into Focus
Appropriately, an Oprah spin-off, Sony’s Dr. Oz, can be declared the nominal Oprah replacement, having snagged her coveted news lead-in slot in more than 80 markets. But it’s no guarantee of success. With Oprah gone in the fall, the time period will be a wide open and highly competitive battleground where it’s quite possible no show or station will carve out a wide advantage.
When The Oprah Winfrey Show concludes its run on Denver CBS O&O KCNC on May 25, McGraw-Hill’s ABC affiliate KMGH hopes to replace it in viewers’ minds with The Dr. Oz Show at 4 p.m. The station will move its 4 p.m. newscast to 3 p.m.
