FX released its annual (unofficial) Peak TV study on today and, after crunching the numbers, determined that a staggering 455 scripted original series aired across broadcast, cable, and streaming sources in 2016. That’s an 8% uptick over 2015’s 421 and a 71% increase vs. five years ago (266 in 2011).

FX continues to beat the too-much-TV drum to a mostly receptive audience of Reporters Who Cover Television, today issuing a report that the total number of scripted series hit a new high this year with 409 dramas, comedies and limited series across broadcast networks, basic and pay cable and OTT services.
The nominees have been announced on both the film and TV sides for the Critics’ Choice Awards, the newly combined honors from the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association. Winners will be announced at the 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards set for Jan. 17 at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica and airing live on A&E, Lifetime and LMN.
