There’s a new push to gin up original half-hour comedies, as a growing number of cable networks are making their own sitcoms, on a budget, and breaking some rules along the way. And don’t forget the dog suit.
Sources said the cable network has inked a deal with Twentieth TV for rights to the hit comedy, which will likely bow in September. The six-year deal for the sitcom, now in its sixth season, is believed to encompass all six seasons as well as Seasons 7 and 8.
The cable channel, known for edgy entertainment and movies, is expected to announce Monday it will be airing college football games on Saturdays this fall. The package of 13 Fox Sports on FX games, some of which will air in primetime, is being carved out of rights deals Fox Sports already has with the Big 12, Pac-12 and Conference USA. Conference USA’s championship game could also air on FX.

Fox And Dish Reach Carriage Agreement
The month-long dispute over programming fees between Dish Network and News Corp. is over. The two companies announced Friday that they have reached a distribution and carriage agreement restoring FX, National Geographic Channel, and Fox’s 19 regional sports networks to the satellite provider. It also averts further programming blackouts. Dish’s contract to carry dozens of local Fox TV stations was set to expire at midnight on Sunday.
