The purchase from Hemisphere Media Group brings together complementary streaming assets, building upon TelevisaUnivision’s investments in and launch of a global streaming service amid the company’s ongoing digital transformation.
Several firms have expressed interest in acquiring Univision Communications, according to people familiar with the matter, a deal that would give the Spanish-language broadcaster’s private-equity owners a long-sought exit. Hemisphere Media Group, Platinum Equity and former Viacom CFO Wade Davis are among those that have made overtures.
Hemisphere Media Group is looking to operate Spanish-language stations in the U.S. It seeks permission for foreign ownership to go as high as 49.99%. Comments are due on or before Aug.29; replies are due Sept. 13.
