CBS has ousted the leaders of its O&O stations in Los Angeles and Chicago after concluding a six-month investigation into misconduct claims at the CBS Television Stations group. Jay Howell is out as general manager of KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV Los Angeles, as is Derek Dalton at WBBM-TV Chicago. The terminations were disclosed in memos Thursday about the conclusion of the investigation sparked by a Los Angeles Times expose on hostile working conditions for women and people of color at a number of CBS O&Os.
Jay Howell Named KCBS-KCAL President-GM
The long-time TV station exec is moving from CBS-owned KDKA-WPCW in Pittsburgh to succeed the retiring Steve Mauldin as head of the group’s Los Angeles duopoly.
The former Media General and LIN executive will oversee KOVR and KMAX following Kevin Walsh’s move to San Francisco.
After 30 years with the company, Scott Blumenthal, EVP television at LIN Media, is ready to retire. Jay Howell, LIN VP regional television, was named his successor. “I look forward to working with Jay and the rest of the Executive Team in a consultancy role and spending some much needed time with my family and golf game,” Blumenthal said.
LIN Makes Three Management Promotions
The moves involve Jay Howell, Patrick Wholey and Joseph Abouzeid and involve the GM slots at WPRI-WNAC Providence, R.I.; and WDTN-WBDT Dayton, Ohio, as well as corporate.
