NBC’s planned live event production of the classic musical with Jennifer Lopez in the lead role has been delayed for a second time due to the difficulty of coordinating with Lopez’s busy scheduley. The project was originally slated to be NBC’s holiday musical event for winter 2017 but was pushed to 2018 last May because of Lopez’s schedule. Now it won’t be taking flight until 2019 at the earliest.
The network has pushed the live musical starring and executive produced by Jennifer Lopez from December to 2018, The delay is due to Lopez’s hectic schedule, which includes two other NBC projects.
NBC’s next big musical event is about a musical superstar — and they’ve already got a musical superstar in the cast. Jennifer Lopez will star in the network’s live production of the beloved musical Bye Bye Birdie — entitled Bye Bye Birdie Live! Lopez will play Rosie, the role that earned Chita Rivera a Tony nomination during the original Broadway run. (Harvey Fierstein will write the teleplay adaptation.)

Lopez will not be back for a third year on television’s top-rated but struggling show, her representative, Mark Young, said Friday. Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler announced Thursday he was exiting. That means the American Idol panel is down to one, original judge Randy Jackson, and there are reports that he may take a different role when the Fox show returns next January.
Lopez, who has young twins, told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres this week that she wasn’t sure about renewing her contract as a judge on the Fox singing contest for a third year.
