Broadcaster’s Guide To Overtime Exemptions

On Sept. 24, the Labor Department published final regulations that raised the minimum salary level necessary to be exempt from federal overtime rules by almost 50%. Broadcasters in particular may feel the impact of the changes given the staffing models used by many TV and radio stations. The new requirements will go into effect on January 1, 2020, and broadcasters should take steps to adapt to, and minimize the impact of, those changes prior to that deadline.
