With more than 300 million uploaded stories and the attention of 45 million people each month, Wattpad was already well-positioned to be a future leader in storytelling. Apparently, Universal Cable Productions thought so, too. It was announced today that UCP, a division of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, will partner with Wattpad to develop original content across multiple categories — mystery/thriller, sci-fi, action and general fiction — that will “influence future television programming.”
NBC Cable Stresses Reach, Scale Of Portfolio
NBC’s cable networks brought the curtain down on TV’s upfront season Thursday night with an emphasis on bigness. It was the theme adopted at the outset of a wide-ranging presentation staged on behalf of USA Network, Bravo, E! Entertainment Television, SyFy, Esquire Network and Oxygen — the largest of the cable networks grouped under the NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment banner.
NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment announced that, effective immediately, its cable networks, including Bravo Media, E! Entertainment, Esquire Network, Oxygen Media, Sprout, Syfy and USA Network, would report only Live + 3 data for most of its programming. The channels will only distribute Live + Same-Day viewership data for live sports/entertainment, specials and event programming.
NBCUniversal has realigned cable networks and top executives in the formation of its new lifestyle group of cable networks. Heading up the group will be Frances Berwick, president, Lifestyle Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.

Bonnie Hammer is officially NBCUniversal’s cable queen. Hammer, who added E! and G4 to her portfolio of USA, Syfy and Universal Cable Prods. after the Comcast merger, is now taking over the combined company’s entire cable universe, including Bravo, Oxygen and Style, which had been under the purview of fellow top-ranked NBCU cable executive Lauren Zalaznick, who becomes EVP, NBCU.
Steve Mandala is no longer with NBCUniversal as of April 6. The high-ranking exec oversaw sales teams for NBCU’s 14-network cable portfolio, including USA, Syfy and Bravo. An NBCUniversal spokeswoman confirmed Mandala’s exit; another source close to the network also said that he won’t be replaced in the role.
