A busy week, with four new news director openings (two at stations that recently underwent … or are undergoing … ownership changes). And there are two new NDs to introduce to you. That leaves our count of open ND positions at 35.

This week’s changes are all in large markets. We have two new NDs and two new openings to share. That means our always unofficial count of open news director jobs remains at 33.

The rating book has ended and the news director changes have started. We have four new NDs to share with you and four new openings. That brings our list of open ND jobs to 33.

We’re still in a rating period but there’s a lot of movement among news directors this week. We have four new openings to report, with three new NDs to introduce you to, although all three newly named NDs are not really ‘new’ news directors. Those changes bring our list of available ND jobs to 31.

James Tortora has resigned as news director of Newport Television’s ABC affiliate in Syracuse, N.Y., according to the station’s GM Theresa Underwood. Citing company policy, Underwood would not say when Tortora resigned. The station named assignment editor Roger Mirabito interim news director while it conducts a search for Tortora’s replacement.

One new news director opening this week, while three open positions have been filled, bringing our list of open ND jobs to 30.

Good news for two assistant news directors last week, as they were promoted to run their newsrooms. Those are the only two new NDs we have to tell you about, and, to the best of my knowledge, there are no new ND openings, leaving our count of open ND jobs at 32.

It was busy last week on the news director front, with two new NDs named on Friday alone, both in top ten markets. And there are five new ND openings, two coming under very unfortunate circumstances. That brings my count of open ND jobs to 27.
