The Fox-owned MyNetworkTV affiliate in Los Angeles will drop its 7 p.m. news on Sept. 20, a little more than a year after it was launched and its 11 p.m. newscast, which debuted in 2002, will end on Sept. 22.
The CBS O&O is pulling the plug on its 4 p.m. newscast, trading local TV journalism for syndicated entertainment fare. The last edition of CBS4 News at 4 will air Sept. 2. The timeslot will be given over to Dr. Phil​ beginning Sept. 5. The newscast had launched this summer to fill the void left by The Oprah Winfrey Show but never found an audience.
University of Georgia officials shut down nightly news broadcasts at the university-owned CBS affiliate last week, laying off 17 people in the process.
