Television used to be ambivalent about religion. Now flirtatious priests, proud agnostics, ardent evangelicals and self- loathing Jews are all staking a claim on primetime. And writer-producers aren’t being coy. Rather than vague generalizations about people of faith, entertainment TV is imagining characters of specific denominations.
