News organizations are being challenged by technology giants and unsettled by a broader lack of trust but they have a much deeper problem: most people don’t want to pay for online news, the Reuters Institute finds.

A new report from IABM covering the last half of 2017, also shows a decline in profit growth, but also points to reasons for optimism looking ahead. The transition to software (including the cloud) is well underway, though hardware remains the primary source of both revenues and profits for most suppliers.
