The Mandalorian

The lawsuit Carano filed with help from X, formerly Twitter, in federal court in California alleges her wrongful termination from the Star Wars galaxy Disney+ streaming series after two seasons over a post likening the treatment of American conservatives to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany.

While Netflix continues to lead the competition, Disney+ showed a strong performance on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 chart this week. During the March 13-19 viewing window, The Mandalorian jumped 25% in viewership, pushing the show to cross the billion minutes threshold with 1.1 billion viewing minutes with the release of the third episode in Season 3. The series landed at No. 3 on the chart, overall.

The Mandalorian has made its return to Nielsen’s weekly streaming rankings. Through the Feb 27-March 5 viewing window, during which Season 3 premiered and was available for five days, the Star Wars series starring Pedro Pascal was watched for 826 million minutes. It followed directly behind NCIS, which often makes the streaming chart, though usually not in such a high position. The boost came from the fact that Nielsen has now added Paramount+ to the list of streaming services it measures.

Lucasfilm, the producers of Disney+’s flagship series, The Mandalorian, have parted ways with original cast member Gina Carano, who plays Rebel shock trooper-turned-New Republic marshal Cara Dune on the Star Wars spinoff. Formerly a mixed martial artist, Carano has been under fire from many fans for quite a while now, due to problematic things she has said/opinions she has supported across social media.

With the help of a de-aged and reanimated legendary Jedi, Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian finally triumphed over visual comfort food favorite, The Office. For the week of Dec. 14 — in which the season 2 finale of the Star Wars spinoff series delivered a healthy heap of fanservice in its surprise cameo and plot twist reveal — The Mandalorian blasted off to the top spot of Nielsen’s Top 10 programs list, edging out the mid-aughts workplace sitcom led by Steve Carell. This win marks the first time that a non-Netflix show landed at No. 1 on Nielsen’s streaming ranker.
