Tom Brokaw Talks Battling Incurable Blood Cancer: ‘I’ve Had A Bad Experience’

NBC News stalwart Tom Brokaw is doing some of his deepest confessional talking this Sunday via CBS News. Brokaw talks to longtime friend Jane Pauley, who anchors CBS News Sunday Morning, and tells her about his battle with incurable blood cancer, which he has been fighting for a decade. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma 10 years ago.

Tom Brokaw, 80, author of The Greatest Generation, was NBC’s lead anchor at Nightly News and for big events for more than 20 years before giving way to Brian Williams in 2004. He was a White House correspondent during Richard Nixon’s presidency, and began co-hosting Today in 1976. He started hosting Nightly News in 1983.

The Mayo Clinic discovered last summer that Brokaw has multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow, NBC News said.
