Netflix Reveals Viewing Data For First Time Across Its Entire Catalog

Netflix today has revealed viewership data for 99% of its entire catalog, or about 18,000 titles around the world. It published the numbers in a report, What We Watched, capturing viewing from January to June of 2023. It is the first edition of a planned semi-annual look at viewership on the leading streaming service. The initiative is to document the highs, lows and in-betweens of the platform instead of delivering the customary lists of only the top-performing programming.

While Fox Sports and Nielsen have yet to release their data for viewing during the big game, newly released data from AdImpact is providing a moment-by-moment analysis of viewing trends at key points in the game. Its data suggests that the 2023 Super Bowl viewing peaked at 124 million near the end of the second quarter and that viewing levels ranged from 98.8 million at kickoff to 113.4 million at the end of the game. About 123.5 million people watched Rihanna’s halftime show.

NBCU Claims Big Ad Impact Over Thanksgiving Weekend

TV Viewership Declines Across All Demos

Traditional viewership for long-form video content, such as movies and television on a TV screen, has declined over the past year — and not just with young viewers. In a new survey, Accenture says there was a 13% drop worldwide and an 11% decline in the United States. Even looking at live TV viewing — specifically at sports programming — there have been cutbacks in usages on the traditional TV screen, 10% globally and 9% in the U.S.
