Univision’s Sadusky On The Broadcast TV Model

While many traditional TV players are looking to diversify beyond linear TV, Univision, with Vince Sadusky at the helm, has spent the past year getting back to its roots as a Spanish-language broadcaster. But while Sadusky believes in the broadcast TV model, Univision’s ratings are challenged, and it has felt increased pressure from its main rival, NBCU-owned Hispanic-targeted broadcaster Telemundo. But Sadusky’s bigger priority, he says, is telling Univision’s refocused story to the ad marketplace.

New Media General Set For New Media World

The combination of the financial acumen of hedge-fund investor Soohyung Kim and the operational expertise of CEO Vincent Sadusky is transforming an old media firm into a forward-looking TV broadcaster. With its acquisition of LIN’s stations and digital group, Kim says the new Media General is “positioning the company to meet change from the balls of our feet, not from the heels. Sook: Stations Could Get $2 Per Sub Retrans

A NATPE panel offered predictions on the future of retransmission consent at stations. Deb McDermott of Young Broadcasting said that she was not opposed to sharing the retrans revenue with the networks “as long as it is the right division of revenue — as long as they don’t get greedy.” And Nexstar’s Perry Sook suggested that even sending half of the revenue to the networks is not unreasonable.
